On April 19, 2025, a powerful storm system swept through Central West Texas, impacting communities within a 100-mile radius of Abilene. The storm brought severe thunderstorms, large hail, and confirmed tornadoes, causing significant damage in towns such as Clyde, Sweetwater, Blackwell, and counties including Tom Green, Runnels, and Coleman.​

Storm Overview

The National Weather Service confirmed at least 10 tornadoes touched down across North and Central Texas on April 19, ranging from EF-0 to EF-2 in strength. One tornado was confirmed on the ground near the Tom Green and Sterling County line around 4 p.m., prompting immediate warnings for residents to seek shelter.

Severe thunderstorms produced large hail and damaging winds throughout the region. In Clyde, a water line break led to a boil water notice for residents. Sweetwater and Blackwell experienced intense storms, with reports of property damage and power outages. Tom Green County reported storm damage approximately 11.4 miles south-southeast of San Angelo.​
