Our Story

Meet John Bunton — Operations & Commercial Roofing Lead

John Bunton began his roofing career in 2007, building his foundation in the commercial roofing sector long before Bunton Roofing officially opened its doors. He led large-scale restoration projects on hospitals, churches, schools, apartment complexes, and industrial facilities — including response and rebuild efforts following Abilene’s major hail storms in 2014 and 2016.

After years of growing his technical expertise and leadership experience, John and Amber founded Bunton Roofing Company in 2021 with a clear purpose: build a roofing business rooted in craftsmanship, trust, and community relationships instead of volume-driven production.

Today, John serves as Primary Operations Lead and Commercial Sales Director, overseeing inspections, jobsite execution, and complex roofing systems for both residential and commercial customers. He holds OSHA certification and is a CertainTeed ShingleMaster, ensuring the highest safety standards and manufacturer-aligned installation practices.

Meet Amber Gilbert Bunton — Co-Owner & Marketing Director

Amber, who earned her MBA, leads marketing, operations, and administrative management. Her role ensures that Bunton Roofing runs with professionalism, organization, and strong customer service while preserving the family-centered values that define the business.

Local Roots in the Big Country

The Bunton family’s roots run deep across West Texas.

From Buffalo Gap to Abilene

John grew up in Buffalo Gap and proudly identifies as a Jim Ned Valley Indian. He later attended Abilene Christian University, where he played football before returning home to build a career in roofing that would eventually shape the founding of Bunton Roofing Company.

Amber’s Ranching Roots in Comanche & Eastland Counties

Amber Gilbert Bunton grew up in Comanche County, surrounded by ranching communities and small-town Texas values. Her extended family settled land in neighboring Eastland County in the late 1800s, near present-day Carbon, where her great-grandfather and seven brothers established working ranch property that remains in the family today. Amber’s father later raised cattle and goats on the same land, continuing a tradition spanning five generations.

Five Generations of West Texas Heritage

Many members of both John’s and Amber’s families still live throughout the area, and loved ones from both sides now rest at Murray Cemetery, binding their family story permanently to the region they proudly serve.
