April 11, 2026 Storm Recap in Abilene & Big Country | Bunton Roofing

Record Rainfall and Strong Winds Move Through Abilene Area

On April 11, 2026, a line of storms moved through Abilene and the surrounding Big Country, bringing heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and isolated reports of minor damage.

According to the US National Weather Service Abilene/San Angelo Texas, Abilene recorded 2.27 inches of rain, officially breaking the previous daily record of 1.55 inches set in 1923. While this storm wasn’t severe compared to major events we sometimes see in West Texas, it did bring enough wind and rain to cause issues for some homeowners.

What We Saw Across Taylor, Callahan, and Runnels Counties

Rainfall totals varied across the region:

  • Areas from near Winters in Runnels County north to Buffalo Gap in Taylor County saw 4–6 inches of rain, with some spots receiving slightly more

  • Storms in Callahan County showed signs of broad rotation, including a wall cloud and a brief, possible funnel near Baird and Clyde

  • These storms dropped nearly 3 inches of rain before moving northeast

  • As the squall line pushed east, strong winds caused damage in Moran

Overall, this system was primarily a wind and rain event, but even moderate storms like this can impact your roof.

What This Means for Your Roof

Storms don’t have to be extreme to cause roofing problems. With this type of weather, we typically see:

  • Blown-off or lifted shingles

  • Minor leaks from wind-driven rain

  • Clogged or overflowing gutters

  • Debris impact from limbs or flying materials

These issues may not always be obvious right away—but if left unaddressed, they can lead to bigger and more expensive problems over time.

When Should You Schedule a Roof Inspection?

After a storm like this, it’s smart to have your roof checked if you notice:

  • Water spots on ceilings or walls

  • Missing or crooked shingles

  • Debris buildup on your roof

  • Granules collecting in gutters or downspouts

Even if everything looks fine from the ground, a professional inspection can catch small issues before they turn into costly repairs.
